Lego Star Destroyer

by @ 4:07 pm. Filed under Uncategorized

Ok, here is the story.

I am a big Lego fiend and have been ever since I was a little kid.  To this day I still remember, when I was in 1st or 2nd grade, the very first lego set I got.  It was this cool space ship…very low tech lego (we are talking 80’s here)…but I instantly fell in love.  Since that day I have always collected Legos.  Sure the interest may come and go, but occasionally the mood strikes and I have to get something cool.

And this is the absolute coolest Lego set ever created.

It is in the mail right now…estimated arrival date 4/17/06.  It’s HUGE…the box alone weighs in at a hefty 22+ lbs.  It is over 3,000 pieces and when fully assembled will measure over 36 in long, 16 in high and 26 in wide.

We are talking seriously massive Lego project here.

Now I have some plans for this thing.  First of all…this cannot be a casual build.  This is doing to take dedicated space and dedicated time. I, of course, am going to take a massive amount of pictures.  Hell…I may even make a movie out of it.  I’ve done that in the past and need to see how to host ‘em on my site here.

So be prepared world…the Empire is in the mail…and it’s bad ass.

Oh yeah…here is a direct link to the kit.  Yes, it was expensive…shut it.

You should totally do a time lapse photo of you building it. That would be the shiznit.

I’ve got a couple options for doing a video of the build…

I’ve got a semi-crappy webcam that can do stop motion or time lapse. Time lapse would be cool but would also include me in the video…which I’m unsure about. Stop motion would be really neat but would be ultra time consuming. It’s roughly 3100 pieces. Say each shot takes roughly 1 minute (20 seconds to find piece, 20 seconds to attach piece correctly, 20 seconds to pose the item and take a picture)…that would result in over 8 1/2 days (assuming I’d work in 6 hour blocks). Ow.

The other option is set up my digi cam to do it…but that wouldn’t be as easy to do, but the picture quality would be a hell of a lot better.

Time lapse would be the absolute easiest.

    We shall see…
